چکیده

• The cardiovascular system is a complex mechanical, chemical, and hemodynamic system in which the variables are interrelated through a variety of feedback mechanisms. Of the various mechanisms that control cardiovascular function, the one that has been most thoroughly investigated is the baroreceptor reflex. The performance of the baroreceptor reflex has been studied previously in preparations in which the feedback path was either intact' or broken,' and several models of blood pressure regulation have been proposed."• Physiological processes involved in the reflex control of blood pressure (such as sinus and aortic nerve activity,' changes in cardiac output and peripheral resistance,' and renal and adrenal hormonal changes) have been studied individually. But complete, quantitative descriptions of the overall response and of the individual processes are lacking at present.

Tonic and reflex control of the cardio-respiratory system by neurons in the ventral medulla

To investigate the channels and neurotransmitters in the ventrolateral medulla (VLM) oblongata that are responsible for the maintenance of sympathetic tone and cardio-respiratory reflex regulation. Microinjections of excitant amino acid (glutamate, 100 nl, 100 mM), calcium channel blockers, agonists and antagonists were made throughout the VLM in anaesthetized rats. Arterial blood pressure, sym...

A Neuro-Mimetic Dynamic Scheduling Algorithm for Control: Analysis and Applications

A simple neuronal network model of the baroreceptor reflex is analyzed. From a control perspective, the analysis suggests a dynamic scheduled control mechanisms by which the baroreflex may perform regulation of the blood pressure. The main objectives of this work are to investigate the static and dynamic response characteristics of the single neurons and the network, to analyze the neuromimetic...

Challenges in practical computation of global sensitivities with application to a baroreceptor reflex model

Background: Sensitivity analysis is the assessment of the effect on a model output from changing model parameters. Quantitatively, local sensitivity analysis can be performed by computing the derivative of the model output with respect to the model parameters. Measures obtained are called local sensitivities as the derivatives are evaluated at some nominal parameter values. Hence, if the uncert...

Dynamic analysis of renal nerve activity responses to baroreceptor denervation in hypertensive rats.

Sinoaortic and cardiac baroreflexes exert important control over renal sympathetic nerve activity. Alterations in these reflex mechanisms contribute to renal sympathoexcitation in hypertension. Nonlinear dynamic analysis was used to examine the chaotic behavior of renal sympathetic nerve activity in normotensive Sprague-Dawley and Wistar-Kyoto rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats before and...
